Fritz Winold Reiss fue un litógrafo, ilustrador, artista gráfico y pintor alemán. Reiss estudió en la Academia de Arte de Düsseldorf bajo la tutela de Karl Müller y Heinrich Lauenstein. Luego trabajó en el negocio litográfico de su padre en Düsseldorf hasta 1878. Desde 1878 vivió en Stuttgart hasta 1882, luego en Lahr (1882 a 1886), Karlsruhe (1886 a 1888), Leipzig (1888 a 1892), después nuevamente en Stuttgart y desde 1899 hasta 1908 en Friburgo de Brisgovia, en la calle Zasiusstraße 70. Reiss was a member of the artists' association "Breisgauer Fünfer", founded in 1899, whose chairman was Hermann Dischler. He had lived in Kirchzarten since 1908, where he joined the painters of the so-called Gutach artists' colony. In his drawings, watercolors and paintings, he captured the country, the people and the customs of the Black Forest in a narrative and humorous way, not without social criticism. He illustrated numerous magazines, novels and books, including picture books for children and youth literature, and designed postcards and ceramics. El pintor germano-estadounidense Winold Reiss era su segundo hijo.
