Fritz Winold Reiss era un litografo, illustratore, artista grafico e pittore tedesco. Reiss studiò all'Accademia d'Arte di Düsseldorf sotto Karl Müller e Heinrich Lauenstein. In seguito lavorò nell'attività litografica del padre a Düsseldorf fino al 1878. Dal 1878 visse a Stoccarda fino al 1882, poi a Lahr (1882-1886), Karlsruhe (1886-1888), Lipsia (1888-1892), quindi nuovamente a Stoccarda e dal 1899 al 1908 a Friburgo in Brisgovia, in Zasiusstraße 70. Reiss was a member of the artists' association "Breisgauer Fünfer", founded in 1899, whose chairman was Hermann Dischler. He had lived in Kirchzarten since 1908, where he joined the painters of the so-called Gutach artists' colony. In his drawings, watercolors and paintings, he captured the country, the people and the customs of the Black Forest in a narrative and humorous way, not without social criticism. He illustrated numerous magazines, novels and books, including picture books for children and youth literature, and designed postcards and ceramics.
