Fritz Winold Reiss foi um litógrafo, ilustrador, artista gráfico e pintor alemão. Reiss estudou na Academia de Arte de Düsseldorf sob a orientação de Karl Müller e Heinrich Lauenstein. Em seguida, trabalhou no negócio litográfico de seu pai em Düsseldorf até 1878. De 1878 a 1882, viveu em Stuttgart, depois em Lahr (1882 a 1886), Karlsruhe (1886 a 1888), Leipzig (1888 a 1892), novamente em Stuttgart e, de 1899 a 1908, em Friburgo na Brisgóvia, na Zasiusstraße 70. Reiss was a member of the artists' association "Breisgauer Fünfer", founded in 1899, whose chairman was Hermann Dischler. He had lived in Kirchzarten since 1908, where he joined the painters of the so-called Gutach artists' colony. In his drawings, watercolors and paintings, he captured the country, the people and the customs of the Black Forest in a narrative and humorous way, not without social criticism. He illustrated numerous magazines, novels and books, including picture books for children and youth literature, and designed postcards and ceramics.
