George Loring Brown

George Loring Brown war ein amerikanischer Landschaftsmaler. Er wurde in Boston geboren und studierte zunächst Holzstich unter Alonzo Hartwell und arbeitete als Illustrator. Er studierte Malerei bei Washington Allston, ging aber bald nach Europa und lebte hauptsächlich für Jahre in Italien. Brown verbrachte einen großen Teil seines Lebens im Ausland, und die Motive seiner Bilder sind meist italienisch, und es gibt nichts spezifisch Amerikanisches an ihnen, weder in der Behandlung nor im Gefühl. Zu den besten gehören „Sunset in Genoa“ (1875), „Doges' Palace and Grand Canal“, „Bay of Naples“, „Niagara Falls in Moonlight“. „The Bay of New York“ (1869) wurde von König Edward VII. erworben, als er als Prinz von Wales Amerika besuchte.
