George Loring Brown

George Loring Brown était un peintre paysagiste américain. Il est né à Boston et a d'abord étudié la gravure sur bois sous Alonzo Hartwell, travaillant comme illustrateur. Il a étudié la peinture avec Washington Allston, mais est bientôt parti en Europe, résidant principalement en Italie pendant des années. Brown a passé une grande partie de sa vie à l'étranger, et les sujets de ses tableaux sont généralement italiens, et il n'y a rien de spécifiquement américain dans leur traitement ou leur sentiment. Parmi ses meilleurs tableaux figurent « Sunset in Genoa » (1875), « Doges' Palace and Grand Canal », « Bay of Naples », « Niagara Falls in Moonlight ». « The Bay of New York » (1869) a été acquis par le roi Édouard VII lors de sa visite en Amérique en tant que prince de Galles.
