George Loring Brown

George Loring Brown era un pittore paesaggista americano. Nacque a Boston e studiò inizialmente la xilografia sotto Alonzo Hartwell, lavorando come illustratore. Studiò pittura con Washington Allston, ma presto andò in Europa, risiedendo principalmente in Italia per anni. Brown passò gran parte della sua vita all'estero, e i motivi dei suoi dipinti sono generalmente italiani, e non c'è nulla di specificamente americano in essi né nel trattamento né nel sentimento. Tra i migliori ci sono "Sunset in Genoa" (1875), "Doges' Palace and Grand Canal", "Bay of Naples", "Niagara Falls in Moonlight". "The Bay of New York" (1869) fu acquisita dal re Edoardo VII quando visitò l'America come principe di Galles.
