George Walker nacque nel 1781 vicino a Leeds, il più giovane di cinque fratelli; suo padre William era un droghiere e membro della Mill Hill Chapel. George fu educato a Mansfield e poi alla scuola del Revd. Charles Wellbeloved a York. Invece di seguire la professione di suo padre, studiò storia naturale e belle arti, realizzando spesso schizzi di animali selvatici, persone e paesaggi. Morì nel 1856.
