George Walker nasceu em 1781 perto de Leeds, o mais jovem de cinco irmãos; seu pai William era um droguista e membro da Capela de Mill Hill. George foi educado em Mansfield e depois na escola do Revd. Charles Wellbeloved em York. Em vez de seguir o comércio de seu pai, ele estudou história natural e artes plásticas, fazendo frequentemente esboços de animais selvagens, pessoas e paisagens. Ele morreu em 1856.
