喬瓦尼·貝內代托·卡斯蒂廖內是熱那亞畫派的義大利巴洛克畫家、版畫家和素描家。他如今最為人熟知的是其蝕刻版畫作品，以及作為獨幅版畫技法的發明者。他在義大利被稱為「Il Grechetto」，在法國則被稱為「Le Benédette」。 卡斯蒂廖內出生於熱那亞。他早期的師承經歷尚不明確。他可能曾師從西尼巴爾多·斯科爾扎。維特科爾稱他是安東尼·凡·戴克（1621年抵達熱那亞）和彼得·保羅·魯本斯（17世紀初十年間曾居於此城，其畫作在當地隨處可見）的「熱忱追隨者」。他也可能曾在熱那亞畫家貝爾納多·斯特羅齊門下學藝。1634年至約1645年間，他旅居羅馬，隨後返回熱那亞。他還曾遊歷佛羅倫斯與那不勒斯。1647年他重返羅馬，後於1651年遷居曼圖亞，擔任公爵卡洛二世及其妻子伊莎貝拉·基亞拉·德·奧地利的宮廷畫家。他最終在曼圖亞逝世。 他創作肖像畫、歷史題材作品和風景畫，但最擅長的還是描繪帶有動物的集市、市集和鄉村場景。諾亞方舟以及動物們登上方舟是他鍾愛的題材之一。 卡斯蒂廖內是一位傑出的素描家，並開創了將油畫速寫（常採用混合媒材）作為獨立完整作品呈現的先河——而在此之前，這類速寫僅被用作創作其他成品的習作草圖，例如魯本斯便曾如此運用。他反覆描繪相同的題材，但每次的構圖都大相徑庭。
