Giovanni Grubacs, ein gefeierter Maler venezianischer Szenen des 19. Jahrhunderts, war ein hochqualifizierter Künstler und der Sohn von Carlo Grubacs, einem angesehenen Maler ähnlicher Sujets. Stilistisch malten Giovanni und Carlo meist kleine Tafeln von extrem hoher Qualität, mit sorgfältiger Aufmerksamkeit für Details und Präzision. Viele ihrer Werke zeigten berühmte venezianische Szenen entlang des Canal Grande, wie den Dogenpalast und die Rialtobrücke. Giovanni folgte der großen Tradition der venezianischen Künstler des 17. und 18. Jahrhunderts, stark beeinflusst von Malern wie Francesco Guardi (1712-1793) und Antonio Canal Canaletto (1697-1768). Grubacs war deutscher Herkunft, verbrachte jedoch den Großteil seines Lebens in Italien. Er starb 1919 in Venedig nach einem langen und ertragreichen Leben. Seine Werke sind heute noch genauso beliebt wie zu seinen Lebzeiten und sind in vielen öffentlichen und privaten Sammlungen weltweit zu finden.
