フランドルの祭壇画とタペストリー

ゴドフリート・マースはフランドルの画家、素描家、タペストリーデザイナーでした。彼は祭壇画や寓意場面の画家として活動しました。彼は多作な素描家で、タペストリー工房、出版社、家の装飾のためのデザインを作成しました。彼の後援者には南ネーデルラントの主要な人物が含まれていました。ゴドフリード・マースはアントウェルペンで生まれ、父親と歴史画家ピーテル・ファン・リントの下で修業した。1672年にアントウェルペンの聖ルカ組合の親方となり、1675年にジョシナ・バーケラントと結婚した。夫婦には子供がいなかった。1682年には組合の会長に就任した。ゴドフリート・マースは1664年から1700年の間、アントワープで活動しました。彼の作品は南ネーデルラント全域で非常に高く評価されました。彼はアントワープ、ブリュッセル、リエージュの教会や個人顧客からの注文を完成させました。ブリュッセルでは、トゥルン・ウント・タクシス家の初代公オイゲン・アレクサンダー・フランツのために働き、トゥルン・ウント・タクシス家を賛美する寓意的な場面を描いた天井装飾を制作しました。1697年から1700年の間、彼は当時南ネーデルラント総督であったバイエルン選帝侯マクシミリアン2世エマヌエルのために、ブリュッセルの居城クーデンベルク宮殿の天井装飾を手がけました。デザインは平和と自由の象徴的な人物像を表し、ムーサのカリオペーとクリオが伴っていました。彼はウィレム・イグナティウス・ケリックス、マテウス・ネッケンス、アントニー・デュ・プレ、ドミニクス・スモウト、ヤコブ・シュケ、ジェラール・トーマスの教師でした。彼は1700年5月30日にアントワープで死去した。これはアントワープの聖ヤコブ教会にある彼の墓の碑文によって証明されている。
