Gustave Vanaise
Peintre historique flamand, fondateur Vingt
Né à Gand, où il fut formé avant de compléter sa formation à Bruxelles, Vanaise devint en 1883 l'un des membres fondateurs du groupe Les Vingt. Influencé par l'art flamand, puis par l'art néerlandais après une visite dans les Pays-Bas au début de 1878, mais aussi par des contemporains tels que Jan Van Beers, Vanaise s'installa à Paris en août 1878. Il y passa deux ans et peignit ses premières grandes peintures d'histoire, qu'il commença à exposer au Salon.
