귀스타브 바네즈
플랑드르 역사화가, 스무명회 창립
바네이즈는 헨트에서 태어나 그곳에서 교육을 받은 후 브뤼셀에서 수련을 마쳤다. 1883년, 그는 그룹 '레 벵트'의 창립 회원 중 한 명이 되었다. 1878년 초 저지대 국가들을 방문한 후 플랑드르 미술과 이후 네덜란드 미술의 영향을 받았으며, 얀 판 베어스와 같은 동시대 화가들의 영향도 받아 1878년 8월 파리로 이주했다. 그는 그곳에서 2년을 보내며 첫 대형 역사화를 제작했고, 살롱에 출품하기 시작했다.
