Harmen Steenwyck
Maestro del bodegón vanitas holandés
Harmen Steenwijck o Harmen Steenwyck fue un pintor neerlandés de bodegones del Siglo de Oro. Steenwyck nació en Delft, y su año de nacimiento es una estimación aproximada basada en la aparición de su primera pintura en 1633. Era el hermano de Pieter Steenwijck, también pintor de bodegones, cuyo padre Evert los envió a aprender pintura con su tío David Bailly en Leiden. David Bailly influyó en Steenwyck para pintar su primera obra «Vanitas». Harmen estuvo activo como pintor en Leiden entre 1628 y 1633. Se mudó de vuelta a Delft desde 1633 hasta 1656. En 1654-1655 hizo un viaje a las Indias Orientales Neerlandesas. Murió en Leiden. Steenwijck es más conocido por su sermón visual en la pintura Una Alegoría de las Vanidades de la Vida Humana que pintó en 1658 en la National Gallery, Londres.
