Hendrick Avercamp
Pionnier des paysages hivernaux
Hendrick Avercamp était un peintre néerlandais. Avercamp est né à Amsterdam, où il a étudié auprès du portraitiste d'origine danoise Pieter Isaacks (1569–1625), et peut-être aussi auprès de David Vinckboons. En 1608, il quitta Amsterdam pour s'installer à Kampen, dans la province d'Overijssel. Avercamp était sourd et muet et était connu sous le nom de « de Stomme van Kampen » (le muet de Kampen). Comptant parmi les premiers peintres paysagistes de l'école hollandaise du XVIIe siècle, il s'est spécialisé dans la représentation des Pays-Bas en hiver. Les tableaux d'Avercamp sont colorés et animés, avec des personnages soigneusement intégrés dans le paysage. Ses œuvres offrent une depiction vivante des sports et loisirs aux Pays-Bas au début du XVIIe siècle. De nombreuses peintures d'Avercamp mettent en scène des personnes patinant sur des lacs gelés. Les œuvres d'Avercamp ont connu une grande popularité et il a vendu ses dessins, dont beaucoup étaient rehaussés d'aquarelle, comme des tableaux achevés destinés à être collés dans les albums des collectionneurs. La Royal Collection possède un ensemble remarquable de ses œuvres. Avercamp est mort à Kampen et y a été inhumé dans la Sint Nicolaaskerk.
