헨드리크 테르 브뤼헌
강렬한 명암과 사회 리얼리즘
헨드릭 테르 브뤼헌은 풍속화와 종교화를 그린 네덜란드 화가였다. 그는 카라바조의 네덜란드 추종자들, 즉 소위 위트레흐트 카라바조파의 핵심 인물이었다. 헤리트 판 혼토르스트 및 디르크 판 바뷔런과 함께 테르 브뤼헌은 카라바조의 영향을 받은 가장 중요한 네덜란드 화가 중 한 명이었다. 그의 그림은 대담한 키아로스쿠로 기법, 즉 밝고 선명한 표면과 어둡고 침울한 부분의 대비가 두드러졌을 뿐만 아니라, 주제의 사회적 사실주의에서도 특징을 보였는데, 이러한 소재들은 때로는 매력적이고, 때로는 충격적이거나 노골적으로 저속하기도 했다.
