亨利·让·奥古斯丁·德·布雷克勒尔是一位比利时画家。他出生于安特卫普，并在此去世。他跟随其父亲——著名风俗画家费迪南德·德·布雷克勒尔，以及他的叔叔扬·奥古斯特·亨德里克·莱斯学习绘画。1854年，布雷克勒尔进入安特卫普皇家美术学院学习。尽管他直到1861年仍是一名学生，但他在1858年首次公开展出画作，当时《收割者》和《洗衣妇》（下落不明）在安特卫普沙龙展出。1863年，他前往德国，1864年又前往荷兰，研究这两个国家16世纪和17世纪画家的作品。约翰内斯·维米尔的影响尤为重要，这体现在德·布雷克勒尔最具代表性的主题之一：一个人沉浸在安静的活动中，场景设定在由窗户照亮的室内。 1869年，德·布雷克勒与比利时艺术商古斯塔夫·库托签订合同，这段合作关系一直持续到1876年。同年，他的叔叔莱伊斯男爵去世。这两件事共同促成了德·布雷克勒职业生涯中最多产的时期，他在此期间创作了使其最为人熟知的作品，并因此获得公众认可。1872年，他凭借《地理学家》和《课程》在布鲁塞尔沙龙获得金奖；1873年，又凭借《画家的画室》和《祖母的生日庆祝》在维也纳国际展览会上获得金奖（所有这些作品均藏于布鲁塞尔皇家美术博物馆）。然而，显然由于抑郁症，他在1879年至1881年间似乎停止了绘画。当他重新开始工作时，他采用了更短且更明显的笔触，这可能是受到印象派影响的结果。文森特·梵高在写给弟弟提奥的信中多次提到德·布雷克勒，称他是一位自己欣赏的艺术家，同时也是一位受精神疾病困扰的人。
