荷蘭巴洛克河景與植物畫
小赫爾曼·薩夫特萊文是巴洛克時期的荷蘭畫家。薩夫特萊文出生於鹿特丹，一生大部分時間（1632–1685）居住在烏得勒支。他的兄弟科內利斯·薩夫特萊文（1607–1681）和亞伯拉罕·薩夫特萊文都是畫家。前者作為畫家更為知名，專攻風俗畫，而赫爾曼則以描繪河流場景以及人物穿越森林的風景畫而聞名。他的父親老赫爾曼·薩夫特萊文是鹿特丹的一位畫家，於1627年之前去世。赫爾曼二世的一個女兒薩拉·薩夫特萊文，1633年後出生於烏得勒支，也成為了一位水彩花卉畫家。她於1671年與雅各布·阿德里安斯茲·布魯爾斯結婚。 赫爾曼成為烏得勒支聖路加公會的院長。在1670年代的一場風暴摧毀了該鎮大部分地區後，他將自己在教堂被毀前繪製的烏得勒支教堂系列素描賣給了市政府。1680年代，他受業餘植物學家和園藝學家阿格尼絲·布洛克委託，在她位於烏得勒支附近的鄉村莊園繪製花卉和植物。他在烏得勒支去世。
