Jacopo da Empoli
Maniérisme réformé et natures mortes
Jacopo da Empoli était un peintre réformiste florentin italien. Né à Florence sous le nom de Jacopo Chimenti (Empoli étant le lieu de naissance de son père), il travailla principalement dans sa ville natale. Il fut apprenti chez Maso da San Friano. Comme son contemporain dans le Contre-Maniérisme, Santi di Tito, il adopta un style souvent plus net, moins contorsionné et moins chargé que ses prédécesseurs maniéristes comme Vasari. Il collabora avec Alessandro Tiarini dans certains projets. Son jeune frère, Domenico Chimenti, né à Empoli, était également peintre. Parmi ses élèves figuraient Felice Ficherelli, Giovanni Battista Brazzè (Il Bigio), Giovanni Battista Vanni et Virgilio Zaballi. Enfin, travaillant sur un thème souvent évité par les peintres florentins, après les années 1620, il acheva une série de natures mortes exceptionnelles.
