Jacopo da Empoli
Manierismo riformato e nature morte
Jacopo da Empoli fu un pittore riformista fiorentino italiano. Nato a Firenze come Jacopo Chimenti (Empoli essendo il luogo di nascita di suo padre), lavorò principalmente nella sua città natale. Fu apprendista presso Maso da San Friano. Come il suo contemporaneo nel Contro-Manierismo, Santi di Tito, passò a un stile spesso più nitido, meno contorto e meno affollato dei suoi predecessori manieristi come Vasari. Collaborò con Alessandro Tiarini in alcuni progetti. Suo fratello minore, Domenico Chimenti, nato a Empoli, fu anche lui pittore. Tra i suoi allievi vi erano Felice Ficherelli, Giovanni Battista Brazzè (Il Bigio), Giovanni Battista Vanni e Virgilio Zaballi. Infine, lavorando su una tematica spesso evitata dai pittori fiorentini, dopo gli anni 1620 completò una serie di nature morte eccezionali.
