詹姆斯·漢密爾頓
受透納啟發的費城插畫家
詹姆斯·漢密爾頓最初是一名商人，後來決定投身藝術事業。他曾在費城擔任繪畫教師，隨後於1854年前往英國，研習特納及其他偉大風景畫家的作品。在海外一年後，漢密爾頓返回費城，在那裡他以插畫師的身份立足，參與了《北極探險》等書籍的繪製工作，該書是曾兩次前往北極水域探險的伊萊沙·肯特·凱恩博士的回憶錄。1875年，漢密爾頓將他的全部藝術作品在費城出售，為環球旅行做準備。然而，他只走到了舊金山，並於1878年在那裡去世。
