James Lambert van Lewes

James Lambert senior werd in 1725 geboren in Sussex. Hij was de zoon van John Lambert (1690-1764) en zijn vrouw Susannah. De familie Lambert verhuisde rond 1730 naar Lewes en woonde in het Cliffe-gedeelte van de stad. James wordt vaak verward met zijn verwant James Lambert junior (1741-1799), die blijkbaar zijn neef was en niet zijn zoon. Beiden produceerden talloze schilderijen van kerken, kastelen, abdijen, landhuizen en lokale gezichten in Sussex. De twee mannen werkten ook samen en ondertekenden hun werken soms eenvoudig als "James Lambert".
