精密な歴史的水彩画
ジェームズ・ステファノフは、英国のリージェンシー時代に主に活動した熟練した英国の水彩画家でした。ステファノフの作品は、同時代および歴史的出来事の場面を描くことに重点を置いていますが、小規模な肖像画や室内の場面も描いています。 彼は歴史的衣装の細部への配慮と、構図における卓越した技能、特に場面の中で多数の人物を巧みに配置する手腕で称賛された。これにより、1831年にウィリアム4世国王の水彩歴史画家に任じられた。ステパノフは、国王や他の著名な庇護者のために、ジョージ4世の戴冠式やキャロライン王妃の裁判などの出来事を描いた作品を制作した。
