Jan Chełmiński

Jan Chełmiński, también conocido como Jan van Chelminski, nacido Jan Władysław Chełmiński, fue un pintor polaco. Chełmiński ingresó en la Academia de Bellas Artes de Múnich el 14 de abril de 1875 (registro: 3144) y trabajó por toda Europa. Desde 1895 vivió en Nueva York, aunque había obtenido la ciudadanía británica en 1893. Se casó dos veces. Tras divorciarse de su primera esposa, Marie Henschel (1858–?), se casó con Leonie Knoedler, hermana de Roland Knoedler, de la famosa galería de arte neoyorquina Knoedler. Chełmiński fue más conocido en vida por sus obras históricas, especialmente aquellas que trataban sobre la historia militar y las guerras napoleónicas.
