Goeree war Maler, Zeichner, Kupferstecher und Radierer. Er war der Sohn von Willem Goeree, einem niederländischen Kunsttheoretiker, der eine umfassende Übersicht über die verschiedenen Techniken erstellte, die notwendig sind, um ein großer Künstler zu werden: Zeichnen, Architekturkenntnisse, Perspektive, Anatomie, Komposition, Vorstellungskraft, Farbe und Schattierung, die sein Sohn offensichtlich alle beherrschte.
