Goeree était peintre, dessinateur, graveur et aquafortiste. Il était le fils de Willem Goeree, un théoricien de l'art néerlandais qui a réalisé une étude exhaustive des diverses techniques nécessaires pour devenir un grand artiste : le dessin, la connaissance de l'architecture, la perspective, l'anatomie, la composition, l'imagination, la couleur et les ombres, toutes maîtrisées manifestement par son fils.
