Goeree foi pintor, desenhista, gravador e aguafortista. Era filho de Willem Goeree, um teórico da arte holandês que realizou um levantamento abrangente das várias técnicas necessárias para se tornar um grande artista: desenho, conhecimentos de arquitetura, perspectiva, anatomia, composição, imaginação, cor e sombreamento, todas claramente dominadas por seu filho.
