Jan Van Os
Mestre holandês de naturezas-mortas florais
Jan van Os foi um pintor holandês e membro da renomada família de artistas Van Os. Van Os nasceu em Middelharnis. Foi ensinado por Aert Schouman em Haia, onde passou o resto de sua vida. Em 1773, registrou-se na confraria dos pintores. Em 1775, casou-se com Susanna de La Croix, uma habilidosa pastelista e filha do retratista surdo-mudo Pieter Frederik de la Croix. Van Os é mais conhecido por suas naturezas-mortas de frutas e flores, embora tenha começado sua carreira pintando marinhas. Suas naturezas-mortas florais eram pintadas no estilo de Jan van Huysum, com as flores geralmente apresentadas sobre uma borda de mármore contra um fundo verde. Ele foi o pai dos artistas Pieter van Os, Maria Margaretha van Os e Georgius Jacobus Johannes van Os, e avô do pintor Pieter Frederik van Os. Jan van Os foi o professor de seus filhos e também de Petronella van Woensel, uma amiga de sua filha Maria.
