Jan Weenix

Jan Weenix o Joannis Wenix fue un pintor neerlandés. Fue formado por su padre, Jan Baptist Weenix, junto con su primo Melchior d'Hondecoeter. Como su padre, se dedicó a una variedad de temas, pero su fama se debe principalmente a sus pinturas de caza muerta y de escenas de caza. Muchos cuadros de este género antes atribuidos al Weenix mayor ahora se consideran generalmente obras del hijo. Weenix fue miembro del gremio de pintores de Utrecht en 1664 y 1668. A la edad de veinte años, Jan Weenix rivalizó y posteriormente superó a su padre en amplitud de tratamiento y riqueza de color. En 1697 pintó un retrato de Pedro el Grande, que visitaba la República para estudiar construcción naval, ciencia y el arte de la fortificación. En Ámsterdam, Weenix fue frecuentemente empleado para decorar casas particulares con pinturas murales en lienzo.
