Jan Weenix

Jan Weenix ou Joannis Wenix était un peintre néerlandais. Il fut formé par son père, Jan Baptist Weenix, ainsi que par son cousin Melchior d'Hondecoeter. Comme son père, il se consacra à une variété de sujets, mais sa renommée est principalement due à ses peintures de gibier mort et de scènes de chasse. De nombreux tableaux de ce genre autrefois attribués à l'aîné Weenix sont aujourd'hui généralement considérés comme les œuvres du fils. Weenix était membre de la guilde des peintres d'Utrecht en 1664 et 1668. À l'âge de vingt ans, Jan Weenix rivalisait puis surpassait son père en ampleur de traitement et en richesse de couleur. En 1697, il peignit un portrait de Pierre le Grand, qui visitait la République pour étudier la construction navale, la science et l'art de la fortification. À Amsterdam, Weenix était fréquemment employé pour décorer des maisons privées avec des peintures murales sur toile.
