Jean-Baptiste Cariven
Dekadenter erotischer antiklerikaler Maler
Ausgebildet bei Meistern in Gaillac, dann an der École des Beaux-Arts in Toulouse und in Paris, pflegte Cariven während seines Lebens viele freundschaftliche Beziehungen zu Künstlern aus Toulouse: André Roucolle, Charles Ponsin-Andarahy, Louis Cazottes... Er führte eine Karriere als Maler und Kunstlehrer. Er setzte die Produktion recht eigenständiger gemalter und gravierter Werke fort, wobei er sich eindeutig der Bewegung des Dekadenzismus zuordnete, mit einer Neigung zu Erotik und Antiklerikalismus, die seine Werke kennzeichnen, von denen viele im Privatbesitz blieben.
