首位入选法兰西学院的风景画家
让-约瑟夫-克萨维埃·比多是一位法国画家。 比多出生于卡庞特拉市，最初在里昂跟随其兄长让-皮埃尔-克萨维埃学习绘画。1783年，他前往巴黎，在那里赢得了一位名为杜拉克的艺术品商人和香水商的青睐。后者资助了比多在意大利的旅行，他在罗马生活了五年，并广泛游历。在那座城市里，他与法国艺术界的大多数联系人都是历史画家。 1790年，比多返回巴黎；1791年，他首次参加沙龙展。此后，他定期参展。1792年，他开始接受官方委托，并于1823年成为首位入选法兰西美术学院的风景画家。1825年，他获颁荣誉军团勋章。他的声誉大约在此时开始下滑；作为沙龙评审团成员，他被视为阻碍新一代风景画家进入沙龙的主要人物，其中最具代表性的是泰奥多尔·卢梭。比多遭到媒体的猛烈抨击，结果导致其作品无法售出。到他去世时，已近乎贫困潦倒。 1800年，弗朗索瓦-阿德里安·布瓦尔迪耶将他的歌剧《巴格达的哈里发》题献给比多。 卡米耶·柯罗在比达尔的职业生涯中曾是他的仰慕者之一。
