Johann Michael Rottmayr
Portò il barocco italiano a nord
Johann Michael Rottmayr era un pittore austriaco. Rottmayr nacque a Laufen an der Salzach, in Baviera. Insieme al suo contemporaneo nato a Laufen, Hans Adam Weissenkircher, ricevette la sua istruzione da Johann Carl Loth a Venezia. Proprio come Weissenkircher aveva portato il Rinascimento italiano nelle Alpi meridionali e alla corte dei principi di Eggenberg a Graz, Rottmayr lo portò a nord delle Alpi. Dal 1689 in poi, lavorò a Salisburgo e fu impiegato come pittore generale del principe-vescovo di Salisburgo.
