Johann Nepomuk Strixner
Maestro della litografia riproduttiva
Johann Nepomuk Franz Xaver Strixner è stato un disegnatore, litografo e incisore tedesco. Strixner era figlio del medico Franz Seraph Strixner e crebbe a Wasserburg am Inn. Dopo le sue prime lezioni di disegno a Wasserburg, Strixner si trasferì a Monaco nel 1797 per diventare allievo di Hermann Mitterer alla Feiertagsschule, e dal 1799 imparò anche l'incisione su rame lì. Nel 1804, incise il libro di disegni del suo mecenate Johann Christian von Mannlich, tratto dalle opere di Raffaello, destinato agli studenti d'arte e agli appassionati. Nel gennaio 1809, Strixner si iscrisse al corso di incisione all'Accademia di Monaco. Nel 1808/09, lavorò ai disegni cristiano-mitologici di Albrecht Dürer, pubblicati da Alois Senefelder come copie litografiche. Insieme a Ferdinand Piloty, pubblicò una serie di 432 litografie basate su disegni di antichi maestri tra il 1808 e il 1815, specializzandosi nella riproduzione litografica di opere d'arte antica. Divenne particolarmente noto per la sua riproduzione della collezione di dipinti dei fratelli Sulpiz e Melchior Boisserée e del loro amico Johann Baptist Bertram sotto forma di un'opera litografica di grandi dimensioni, pubblicata in più fascicoli tra il 1821 e il 1840 in 114 fogli. A questo scopo, visse a Stoccarda per diversi anni, dove la collezione Boisserée fu esposta negli anni Venti dell'Ottocento.
