John Elliott
Epische symbolistische muurschilderingen
John Elliott was een kunstenaar, illustrator en muralist. Geboren in Lincolnshire, Engeland, studeerde hij in Parijs aan de Académie Julian onder Carolus-Duran. In 1878 ging hij naar Rome om te studeren bij José Villegas Cordero en ontmoette daar zijn toekomstige vrouw, Maud Howe, de met de Pulitzer Prize bekroonde Amerikaanse schrijfster en dochter van Julia Ward Howe, de auteur van "The Battle Hymn of the Republic". Elliott staat bekend om zijn epische symbolistische muurschilderingen, waaronder het werk naast zijn vriend en collega John Singer Sargent aan muurschilderingen voor de Boston Public Library, evenals het creëren van een muurschildering in het National Museum (nu het Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History).
