John Emms
Famoso por pintar caballos y perros
John Emms fue un artista inglés. Emms nació en Blofield, Norfolk, hijo del artista Henry William Emms. Se convirtió en un ávido cazador y se hizo famoso por sus pinturas de caballos y perros, particularmente de foxhounds y terriers. Expuso en la Royal Academy varias veces, comenzando en 1866. Sus pinturas están firmadas “Jno Emms”. Se casó con Fanny Primmer de Lyndhurst, Hampshire, en 1880. La pareja vivió en Londres durante un tiempo, pero regresó a Lyndhurst en 1881 y construyó una gran casa y estudio llamada The Firs, donde Emms vivió el resto de su vida. Falleció en Lyndhurst. Su pintura de «Callum», un terrier Dandie Dinmont, cuelga en la National Gallery of Scotland. En 1919, el dueño del perro, James Cowan Smith, donó 55.000 libras (2.500.000 libras en 2019) a la National Gallery of Scotland con el requisito de que la pintura se exhibiera en sus paredes a perpetuidad.
