John Emslie

John Emslie fue un cartógrafo, artista y grabador de ex libris británico. Emslie fue responsable del diseño, el coloreado a mano y el grabado de obras de arte educativas. Sus obras aparecieron en tarjetas didácticas y carteles educativos, publicados por James Reynolds & Sons, ubicados en el 174 de Strand, Londres. En 1850, Emslie pintó a mano y grabó una serie de 44 gráficos y carteles, en respuesta a la demanda popular de información sobre los avances en ciencia e ingeniería resultantes de la Revolución Industrial. La serie educativa se desarrolló entre 1850 y 1860 y cubrió temas de geología, geografía, astronomía y filosofía natural. Emslie fue padre de los artistas John Phillipps Emslie (1839–1913), pintor de figuras, y Alfred Edward Emslie (1848-1918), pintor británico de género y retratos. Fue suegro de Rosalie M. Emslie (1854-1932), pintora de miniaturas, y abuelo de Rosalie Emslie (1891-1977), pintora de figuras, retratos y paisajes. En 1913, el Museo Británico recibió una gran colección de sus obras, donada por J.P. Emslie.
