John Leech
Ilustrador satírico británico pionero
John Leech fue un caricaturista e ilustrador británico. Era mejor conocido por su trabajo para Punch, una revista humorística para una amplia audiencia de clase media, que combinaba sátira política verbal y gráfica con comedia social ligera. Leech complacía los prejuicios contemporáneos, como el antiamericanismo y el antisemitismo, y apoyaba reformas sociales aceptables. Las caricaturas críticas pero humorísticas de Leech sobre la Guerra de Crimea ayudaron a moldear las actitudes del público hacia el heroísmo, la guerra y el papel de los británicos en el mundo. Leech también goza de fama como el primer ilustrador de la novela corta de Charles Dickens de 1843, Canción de Navidad.
