John Rubens Smith

John Rubens Smith fue un pintor, grabador e instructor de arte nacido en Londres, que trabajó en Estados Unidos. Smith nació en Londres, Inglaterra, donde primero estudió arte con su padre, John Raphael Smith, un grabador de mezzotinta. Más tarde estudió arte en la Royal Academy. Smith emigró a la ciudad de Nueva York desde Londres alrededor de 1807. Representó a los Estados Unidos en las décadas anteriores a la fotografía e influyó en una generación de artistas estadounidenses a través de sus academias de dibujo y sus manuales de dibujo. Murió en la ciudad de Nueva York. Su hijo John Rowson Smith (1810–1864) fue un pintor de panoramas móviles que trabajó con Richard Risley Carlisle.
