ジョン・ルーベンス・スミス
写真前の米国を描き指導
ジョン・ルーベンス・スミスは、ロンドン生まれの画家、版画家、美術講師で、アメリカ合衆国で活動しました。 スミスはイングランドのロンドンで生まれ、最初にメゾチント版画師である父のジョン・ラファエル・スミスとともに芸術を学んだ。その後、王立芸術院で芸術を学んだ。 スミスは1807年頃にロンドンからニューヨーク市へ移住した。彼は写真が登場する前の数十年間のアメリカを描き、絵画学校と絵画教本を通じて一代のアメリカ人芸術家に影響を与えた。彼はニューヨーク市で死去した。 彼の息子ジョン・ローソン・スミス（1810–1864）は、リチャード・リスリー・カーライルと協力した移動式パノラマ画家でした。
