존 루벤스 스미스

존 루벤스 스미스는 런던 출신의 화가, 판화가 및 미술 강사로, 미국에서 활동했습니다. 스미스는 잉글랜드 런던에서 태어나 메조틴트 판화가인 아버지 존 라파엘 스미스와 함께 처음 예술을 배웠다. 이후 그는 왕립 예술원에서 예술을 공부했다. 스미스는 1807년경 런던에서 뉴욕시로 이주했다. 그는 사진술이 등장하기 전 수십 년간의 미국을 묘사했으며, 그의 드로잉 아카데미와 드로잉 교재를 통해 한 세대의 미국 예술가들에게 영향을 미쳤다. 그는 뉴욕시에서 사망했다. 그의 아들 존 로슨 스미스(1810–1864)는 리처드 리슬리 칼라일과 함께 일한 이동식 파노라마 화가였다.
