John Rubens Smith

John Rubens Smith foi um pintor, gravador e instrutor de arte nascido em Londres, que trabalhou nos Estados Unidos. Smith nasceu em Londres, Inglaterra, onde primeiro estudou arte com seu pai, John Raphael Smith, um gravador de mezzotinta. Mais tarde, estudou arte na Royal Academy. Smith emigrou para a cidade de Nova Iorque a partir de Londres por volta de 1807. Ele retratou os Estados Unidos nas décadas anteriores à fotografia e influenciou uma geração de artistas americanos por meio de suas academias de desenho e manuais de desenho. Faleceu na cidade de Nova Iorque. Seu filho John Rowson Smith (1810–1864) foi um pintor de panoramas móveis que trabalhou com Richard Risley Carlisle.
