Jörg Breu il Vecchio
Maestro pale scuola del Danubio
Jörg Breu il Vecchio, di Augusta, fu un pittore della scuola tedesca del Danubio. Era il figlio di un tessitore. Si recò in Austria e vi creò diversi altari polittici nel 1500–02, come l'Altare di Melk (1502). Tornò ad Augusta nel 1502, dove divenne maestro. Viaggiò in Italia due volte, ca. 1508 e nel 1514/15. Dopo la sua morte nel 1537, suo figlio, Jörg Breu il Giovane, continuò a dirigere la sua bottega di Augsburg fino alla propria morte 10 anni dopo.
