Joseph Badger

Joseph Badger was a portrait artist in Boston, Massachusetts, in the 18th century. He was born in Charlestown, Massachusetts, to tailor Stephen Badger and Mercy Kettell. He "began his career as a house-painter and glazier, and ... throughout his life continued this work, besides painting signs, hatchments and other heraldic devices, in order to eke out a livelihood when orders for portraits slackened." En 1731 se casó con Katharine Felch; se mudaron a Boston alrededor de 1733. Era miembro de la Iglesia de Brattle Street. Murió en Boston en mayo de 1765, cuando «sufrió un ataque apopléjico mientras caminaba por su jardín y falleció pocos minutos después». Las obras de Badger se encuentran en las colecciones del Worcester Art Museum, el Museum of Fine Arts de Boston y la Phillips House de Historic New England, en Salem, Massachusetts.
