Joseph Badger was a portrait artist in Boston, Massachusetts, in the 18th century. He was born in Charlestown, Massachusetts, to tailor Stephen Badger and Mercy Kettell. He "began his career as a house-painter and glazier, and ... throughout his life continued this work, besides painting signs, hatchments and other heraldic devices, in order to eke out a livelihood when orders for portraits slackened." 1731년 그는 캐서린 펠치와 결혼했으며, 1733년경 보스턴으로 이주했다. 그는 브래틀 스트리트 교회의 회원이었다. 1765년 5월 보스턴에서 사망했는데, 당시 "정원을 걷다가 뇌졸중 발작을 일으켜 몇 분 후에 숨졌다"고 기록되어 있다. 배저의 작품은 우스터 미술관, 보스턴 미술관, 그리고 매사추세츠주 세일럼에 위치한 히스토릭 뉴잉글랜드의 필립스 하우스 컬렉션에 소장되어 있다.
