Jozef Brandt
Maestro delle scene di battaglia
Józef Brandt è stato un pittore polacco, rappresentante della Scuola di Monaco, noto soprattutto per i suoi dipinti di battaglie. Brandt studiò a Varsavia nella scuola di J.N. Leszczynski e all'Istituto dei Nobili. Nel 1858 partì per Parigi per studiare all'École centrale Paris, ma fu persuaso da Juliusz Kossak ad abbandonare l'ingegneria in favore della pittura. Studiò come pittore a Monaco sotto Franz Adam e Karl Piloty e poi aprì il proprio studio. I suoi dipinti studiano principalmente la vita militare del XVII secolo, sebbene abbia anche realizzato alcuni studi sulla vita dei contadini polacchi. Nel 1893, Brandt fu insignito dell'Ordine di Isabella la Cattolica e nel 1898 divenne destinatario dell'Ordine Massimiliano di Baviera per la Scienza e l'Arte.
