Maestro dei ritratti equestri
Julius von Blaas fu istruito da suo padre Carl von Blaas (1815-1994) e si formò a Venezia, Firenze e Roma. Fu anche influenzato dal suo celebre fratello Eugen von Blaas (1843-1931). Julius von Blaas divenne professore all'Accademia di Belle Arti di Vienna ed è particolarmente ammirato per i suoi ritratti equestri.
