Nerveuze renaissanceschilder met excentrieke stijl
Lorenzo Lotto was een Italiaanse schilder, tekenaar en illustrateur, die traditioneel wordt geplaatst in de Veneziaanse school, hoewel veel van zijn carrière werd doorgebracht in andere Noord-Italiaanse steden. Hij schilderde vooral altaarschilderijen, religieuze onderwerpen en portretten. Hij was actief tijdens de Hoog-Renaissance en de eerste helft van de Manneristische periode, maar zijn werk behield een algemeen vergelijkbaar Hoog-Renaissance-stijl gedurende zijn hele carrière, hoewel zijn nerveuze en excentrieke houdingen en vervormingen een overgangsfase vertegenwoordigden naar de Florentijnse en Romeinse Manneristen.
