マチュー・エリアス
ダンケルクの宗教画画家
マチュー・エリアス（Matheiu Elias）、あるいはエリアス（Elyas）またはエリー（Elie）は、1658年にカッセル近くのペーナで生まれた。彼の両親は非常に貧しく、少年時代には牛の世話をしていた。その質素な状況の中で、ダンケルクの画家フィリップ・ド・コルベヘム（Philippe De Corbehem）が、彼が地面に物を描いているのに気づいた。芸術家は、この出来事の特異さと少年の明らかな資質に感銘を受け、彼の母親を説得して彼を自分の世話に委ねさせた。 しばらくの間彼を指導した後、彼は彼を修業のためにパリへ送った。そこで彼は職を得て、数年間滞在した。デ・コルベムの死後、彼はダンケルクに定住し、その町とその周辺の教会のためにいくつかの祭壇画を描いた。彼は1741年にダンケルクで死去した。
