Paolo de Matteis
Pintor barroco napolitano
Paolo de Matteis foi um pintor italiano. Ele nasceu em Piano Vetrale, uma aldeia de Orria, na atual província de Salerno, e morreu em Nápoles. Treinou com Francesco di Maria em Nápoles e depois com Luca Giordano. Serviu sob o comando do vice-rei espanhol de Nápoles. De 1702 a 1705, de' Matteis trabalhou em Paris, Calábria e Gênova. Em Gênova, pintou uma Imaculada Conceição com São Jerônimo aparecendo a São Sevrio. Ao retornar a Nápoles, pintou esquemas decorativos para igrejas napolitanas, incluindo a abóbada da capela de Santo Inácio na igreja de Gesù Nuovo em Nápoles. Também pintou uma Assunção da Virgem para a Abadia de Monte Cassino. Entre 1723 e 1725, de' Matteis viveu em Roma, onde recebeu uma encomenda do Papa Inocêncio XIII. Teve como alunos Ignacio de Oliveira, Bernardes Peresi e membros da família Sarnelli, incluindo Francesco, Gennaro, Giovanni e Antonio Sarnelli. Outros que foram seus alunos foram Giuseppe Mastroleo, Giovanni Pandozzi e Nicolas de Filippis.
